The Railway Hotel, Imbil

James Larney opened the Railway Hotel in 1917, but did not feel suited to the life of a publican and sold out fairly quickly. Because of the proximity of the Grand Hotel at Brooloo, the licensing court initially turned down the application for the Railway Hotel. Sometime after Larney, Moss Reeves and Biddy Millerick, who had previously owned the Mining Exchange Hotel (where the Gympie RSL now stands) licensed the hotel, and after this time, the pub has had a steady succession of owners until current owner, Brian Hooper bought the pub 32 years ago. After the land auction of 1914, Imbil itself grew to boast two general stores (one of which included a post office), a butcher, a branch of the Royal Bank, a baker, a saddler and a blacksmith. After the pub was built, the township expanded again to include a boarding house, cafe, motor garage, confectioner and an ice works.

We will meet for morning tea in the park in Archer Street (the main street) of Woodford.
