Peter Johnston's Jail Break Escape
Club Adventure
20 - 24 May 2025
Join in a four-night Great Escape, starting from Beaudesert and travelling back roads to Kyogle for lunch then on to Grafton via Casino for the first night's stay at the Fitzroy Motor Inn.
On the second day drive a scenic route to Coffs Harbour and then onto Nambucca Heads to visit the V Wall before lunch.
From there, we will follow the Nambucca River to Macksville before joining the motorway to the turn off to South West Rocks.
The following morning, we will visit the Trial Bay Goal and see firsthand the darker side of our earlier penal establishments.
Following the goal visit, we will drive back to the motorway for a short drive towards Port Macquarie where we will visit Ricardo's tomato and strawberry farm for lunch.
After lunch, we will have a free afternoon to explore the many attractions of the area before spending a second night at our accommodation in South West Rocks.
Day 4, we will start our journey home, driving back up the motorway turning off onto the Waterfall Way Scenic drive which will take us the Bellingen for morning tea. From there, we will pass through Dorrigo and then onto Guyra where we will stop for lunch.
After lunch, we will take the New England Highway to Tenterfield, where we will spend the night at the Tenterfield Bowling Club and Motor Inn.
Day 5, we will drive down to Casino, Lismore to Bangalow where we will stop for lunch before heading home.

Day 1 – 20 May 2025
9:30 am Meet and greet at Jubilee Park, Beaudesert, McKee Street entrance for BYO Morning Tea.
Leave at 10:15 am turning right on leaving the park then turn left onto Mount Lindsay Highway (13). Turn left into Summerland Way (B91) Drive to Kyogle. Park in Main Street for one hour lunchbreak.
Day 1 – 20 May 2023 - Continued
After Lunch, depart Kyogle at 1:30 pm and staying on Summerland Way (B91) travel to Grafton via Casino for overnight stay.

Day 2 – 21 May 2025
Depart at 9:45 am, travel via Fitzroy Street, Craig Street and Bent Street. Take the second exit at each of the two roundabouts and after the second round-about after the bridge, turn left into Ryan Street and then second right into Armidale Road and then left into Orarara Way. Drive to Karangi, then join Coramba Road. Join W Hight Street and at the roundabout, take the 3rd exit into Moonee Street. Turn right into Grafton Street and then take the A1 Motorway south.
On this segment, we will drive past the High Security, Grafton Gaol.
Day 2 – 21 May 2025 - Continued
Exit the motorway at Nambucca Heads exit, drive to roundabout, taking the 1st exit, Turn left into Link Road and then right st the T Intersection onto Old Coach Road. At the next roundabout, take the second exit onto Mann Street. Drive through Main Street and continue over brow of hill. Turn left into Wellington Drive and follow the road to the V Wall car park. We will take a stroll along the V Wall before our Lunch at the Tavern or at Wharf Street Cafe.
Day 2 – 21 May 2025 - Continued
After lunch, turn left when exiting Wellington Drive. Drive to T Intersection and turn left into Giingay Way towards Macksville, following the Nambucca River. Stay on the main road through Macksville and take the first exit at the next roundabout, cross the motor way and at the roundabout, take the second exit and enter the motorway (A1 Pacific Highway) heading South.
Exit the motorway to Macleay Valley Way, take the second exit at the roundabout. At Clybucca, turn left into PlummnersIn Lane. Follow River. After crossing river, turn left at T intersection in SW Rocks Road. Cross river into Gregory Street. Turn right into Simpson Street, then left into Mitchell Street and right into McIntyre Street. The Rockpool Motor Inn is on the right.
Day 3 - 22 May 2025 - Trial Bay Gaol Visit
At 9:15 am, leave motel and turn right into McIntyre Street. At the roundabout take the second exit into Phillip Drive. Turn left into Cardwell Street (follow sign). Cardwell Street flows into Trial Bay Gaol access road. Regroup at entrance
Day 4 – 23 May 2025
To-day we start making our way back home, driving via motorway, turning left after Raleigh onto Waterfall Way to Bellingen for morning tea.
