Toowoomba Weekend Run
for the
David Hack Classic

Saturday and Sunday 16/17 May

Organise a group of fellow Club Members to travel to Toowoomba on Saturday 16 May, meet for Dinner and then on Sunday 17 May, display your car at the David Hack Classic or simply visit the event in support of the Leukemia Foundation, Blue Care and other charities.

David Hack was a passionate young man whose life was cut tragically short by Non Hodgkins Lymphoma (Leukaemia). The loves of his life were cars and photography and he had the makings of a brilliant career as a motoring photo-journalist, contributing to magazines such as Street Machines, Fast Fours, Wheels, and Performance Street Car Magazine. He had a number of successes with major photographic competitions and was an extremely talented young man. For his 28th Birthday, a huge “Birthday Bash” had been organised at Aerotec Hangar, Toowoomba Airport, but tragically he passed away two days before it was held.

Members of the Rotary Club of Toowoomba North, some of whom were involved with the “Bash”, have since held the David Hack Classic Meet as an annual event celebrating automotive excellence, aviation history, and community spirit, donating proceeds to Leukaemia Foundation, Blue Care and other charities, in order to create a lasting memorial to a wonderful young man.

From beautifully restored classics and performance vehicles to the sights and sounds of aircraft on display, the event offers something for everyone.

Entry Fee for exhibitors is $20 per vehicle (plus trybooking charge) - Gates open 7:00 AM

Entry Fee for spectators is

$15 per Adult (Children under 12 free)
$40 per family (2 Adults plus Teenagers)

Entry for spectators opens at 8:30 AM

Meet and Greet over coffee at Earle Plaza, White Street, Nerang.

At 11:00 am, exit the car park, turning left into White Street. Turn left at the traffic lights onto Price St/State Route 90. Follow State Route 90 for 3.9 km. At that point, continue onto Nerang Murwillumbah Road/State Route 97 for a further 2.9 km and then turn right into Beechmont Road. Follow Beechmont road for 7 km to the Yowie and the Goat Cafe that will be on the left.

On arrival, we will have a chance to stretch our legs before settling down for lunch that Members will order from the Yowie and the Goat Menu

Meet and Greet

Meet at Falvey's Hotel Yamanto, 406 Warwick Road, Yamanto at 10:00 am for a 10:30 departure.

The Route

On leaving the Falvey's Hotel, turn left onto Warwick Road and proceed under the Cunningham Highway over pass and then follow Ipswich-Boonah Road (Route 93), pulling in to Peak Mountain View Park to allow any stragglers to catch up.

Then proceed through the park to rejoin the Ipswich Boonah Road. On entering Boonah, take the first exit at the round about and proceed for 1.2 km to Mount French Road on the right. We will then drive past the hotel, which is on the corner and proceed up Mount French Road, taking a left and then continue to the end of the road from where we will take a short (10 minute walk) to Logan's Lookout.

After admiring the view of the Fassifern Valley, we will re-trace our steps and then return to the Dugandan Hotel at the corner of Mount French Road and Boonah-Rathdowney Road.

Lunch

Members and their guests will order lunch from the Dugandan Hotel Menu

Enjoy magnificent views of the Brisbane Valley and the company of fellow Members and their Guests while relaxing with your favorite beverages and snacks.

Meet at Bunnings Car Park, Keperra at 10 am.

Anyone who needs a pre-run caffeine fix can have it administered in the Bunnings Cafe.

At 10:30 am, we will depart, turning left from the car park onto Settlement Road which we will follow to its junction with Waterworks Road at the Gap. We will then turn right and follow Waterworks Road that becomes Mt Nebo Road. We will make a brief stop at McAfees Lookout to take in the views of Samford Valley, before proceeding to Jolly's Lookout.

BYO morning tea and picnic lunch or, cook something up on the barbeques that are provided.

While there are a number of picnic tables and chairs at the location, it is recommended that you bring picnic tables and chairs (just in case).

James Hutchinson of Cook's Electroplating.

Cook's Electroplating is a family owned Metal Restoration and Electroplating business that has been in business since 1890. It will be well known to a number of Club Members who have availed themselves of its services. Services that it also provides to Sleeping Beauties.

Details of the history of the business are available on its website at Metal Restoring – Brisbane, QLD – Cook S & Sons and we are sure that Members will find the presentation that James will give us to be very interesting.

Finger Food will be provided prior to the Meeting, which will start at 6:30 pm.

140 years ago, on January 29, 1886, Carl Benz applied for a patent for his “vehicle powered by a gas engine.” The patent – number 37435 – is widely regarded as the birth certificate of the automobile.

Gottlieb Daimler started motorizing stage coaches in 1901 and in 1902, an Austrian automobile entrepreneur, Emil Jellinek an employee of Daimler's company Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG), trademarked the name “Mercedes” after his daughter, Mercedes Jellinek and thereafter, the vehicles produced by DMG were marketed under the name of Mercedes.

100 years ago, in 1926, the companies of Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler were combined, and thus began the production of the first brand-name Mercedes-Benz models.

In recognition of these two anniversaries, the RACQ will be featuring Benz and Mercedes-Benz as their Anniversary Display vehicles and we need to have a display of 70 plus vehicles on the day.
